You are entitled to child benefits in Brussels if your child lives in the Brussels-Capital Region, has Belgian nationality or a valid residence permit, and is under 18 years old.
Child benefits are paid to the person who raises and cares for the child. In most cases, this is the mother, who is considered the beneficiary.
Exceptions are possible. Parents may jointly designate another beneficiary. In the case of separation or disagreement, specific rules apply. However, payment is always made to the person who actually has the child in their care.
This depends on the single parent’s income.
As a resident of Brussels, the basic amount per child ranges from €177,55 to €211.38 per month.
Lower-income households (below approximately €40.586,52) may be entitled to a social supplement.
This depends on the single parent’s income.
Single parents are more likely to qualify for a social supplement than cohabiting families, which can increase the total amount of child benefits.
Monthly child benefits in Brussels are paid on time, no later than the 8th of each month.
For example, on 8 May, you will receive the payment for April.
