Frequently asked questions about child benefits in Brussels
When are child benefits paid?
Child benefits are paid no later than the 8th working day of the following month.
For example, child benefits for the month of May are paid no later than June 8.
First payment:
After submitting a complete file, processing and approval take on average four to six weeks. Once your file is validated, the first payment (with retroactive effect from the date of birth or relocation) is transferred to your bank account.
How much child benefit do you receive in Brussels?
Child benefits in Brussels consist of a one-time birth allowance and a monthly basic amount.
Birth allowance (initial payment)
You receive a one-time payment of €1.395,02 for your first child (and for each child in the case of multiple births). From the second child onwards, the amount is €634,10 per child.
Monthly basic amount
This starts at a minimum of €177,55 per month, per child. The exact amount depends on your child’s age and may be increased based on your family situation or income (through additional supplements).
